Local history

Today, in the very heart of Vilnius’ cultural landscape, between ancient castles and the pulse of modern life, a new living space is being reborn—one that breathes with the stories of centuries past. This majestic land, once cherished by rulers and the noble Radvila family, now opens its doors to new residents, as mysterious legends and age-old tales come to life once more in Vilnius’ historic First District.

The central Neris riverbank, once known as Puškarnia, was a vital part of Vilnius, famed across Europe for its cannon foundries.

It was not only a hub for artisans and artists but also a place where those who had earned the ruler’s favor—nobles, creators, and craftsmen—established their presence.

Legends also speak of a sacred oak grove that inspired architects to create the Garden of Secrets—a space where the tranquility of nature and the depth of history merge into a unique riverside living experience. Just as in the past, this place invites new stories to be written, energy to be drawn, and peace to be discovered.

Žygimantų 12 creates a sensory aesthetic that combines the historical layers of a UNESCO World Heritage Site with modern technology, architectural vision and functionality. Sustainable solutions are often imperceptible, but always felt. Located in a unique archaeological context, the building extends the existing waving cornices and ridges of Žygimantų Street and becomes a blend of modern design and historical values. The surrounding ornate décor, the symmetrical composition of the façade, and the harmonious window and door openings have been used as our inspiration.

In the words of the AKG architectural team: “We have used the proportions of the door and window openings of the adjacent buildings, condensing them into a collection of details, to craft a contemporary blend that connects the existing historic buildings along the evolving Žygimantų Street and retains the timeless essence of their architectural charm. In terms of colour and texture, the building is divided into two parts, thus blending harmoniously into the existing context. The variety of plants in the courtyard and the green walls create cosy and autonomous spaces for the occupants.”
